We need some ideas on controlling and lowering Rhinebeck’s taxes.

I would like to get some comments on how we can lower taxes in Rhinebeck. Town, Village and school. Any thoughts would be appreciated and we can forward to the town, village and school officials.

Reduce the size of the Rhinebeck Police Department, which currently has 13 (mostly part time) officers. I’m not sure how this compares to neighboring jurisdictions, but this seems an awfully large number for a village the size of Rhinebeck

      Hi Sean,
Does the Rhinebeck Police Department just patrol the village or do they also contract with the town to provide police patrols? I will try and find out.

At any rate let’s plug away, get more input and I will forward the post to the Village, Town and Schoolboard.

        Bob:

The Rhinebeck police patrol the town pursuant to a reimbursement agreement with the town but are an agency under the authority of the Village, with the Mayor being the “chief”. The town’s population is approx 7500 and is patrolled by NY State troopers in addition to the Rhinebeck PD. I would be curious of the ratio of local police to population compared to other rural towns which enjoy NY State Trooper coverage. I am trying to research this at present and hope to have results shortly, thanks

          Thank’s Sean.
Taking 2000 census figures Red Hook had a population of 10408 and Rhinebeck had 7762. Geographically the two are very close in size. The Red Hook site lists 3 full time and 10 part time officers while the Rhinebeck site lists 14 part time.

Has anyone taken a look at the school budget? Here’s a link to a website that publishes the salaries of school district employees in NYS. It’s unbelievable what some RCSD staff are paid compared to their actual value. Add to this the overhead of paid benefits, etc.

That website was very enlightening. I guess it explains why my school taxes went up $500 this year! 154 total full and part time employees with 24 of them making over $100K a year! Insane!

The percentage in Rhinebeck is much higher than in either Red Hook, Pine Plains or Hyde Park. Send some friends here to complain, agree or give some ideas and I will send this post to all of our local officials. Village, school and town.

Can anyone tell me why the village foreman’s pickup truck is traveling to Red Hook on an almost daily basis? Just a question that need’s answers. Others have expressed this concern to me as well my seeing it myself.
